Fusion Team Member Alumni of the Year

(October 2002)

Theresa DeConinck, Fusion’s Director of Association Services – Meetings & E-Learning, received the Dean’s Outstanding Alumnus Award from Niagara University.

The College credits DeConinck for the vibrant alumni association which now consists of committees working on mentoring, employment, internships, and public relations. As a Steering Committee member she helped develop the successful Alumni Mentoring program for students in the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The program carefully pairs students with alumni mentors.

DeConinck’s career highlights include the appointment to Director of Sales at the prestigious Santa Barbara Biltmore Hotel at age 25, Director of Sales for a major E-Learning company, and most recently, the Director of Association Services – Meetings & E-Learning at Fusion Productions. “I was very honored to have been given this award. Niagara has always been very special to me,” said DeConinck. “I credit my professional success to my days at NU and have always tried to give back to them.”

According to Dean of the College, Gary Praetzel, “Dedicated alumni like Theresa are major reasons why the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management is ranked among the top 20 hospitality and tourism programs in the country.”

Fusion Productions is a full-service production company that creates customized member experiences whether on stage or on a desktop through the integration of meetings, learning and technology. Fusion is well known to the association community for their ground-breaking technology research, consulting and seminars.

Niagara’s College of Hospitality and Tourism Management is only the fourth college of hospitality and tourism in the country. The College offered the world’s first bachelor’s degree in tourism in 1968 and in February 1993, it was the seventh program in the U.S. accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA). Today the College is one of 33 baccalaureate programs granting degrees in hospitality and tourism.
