Fusion and APQC Launch Effort to Help Associations and Organizations Build and Sustain Online Communities

(July 29, 2004)

Fusion Productions and the American Productivity & Quality Center (APQC) today launched a powerful relationship to strengthen organizations' virtual communities, or communities of practice. Through this joint offering, organizations and associations can enrich the value they provide their community members by using best practices and guidance from nonprofit APQC, combined with Fusion's community software.

Specifically, organizations and associations will gain knowledge of how to:

  • build a business case for communities;
  • design how a community should be managed;
  • train leaders and employers on how to run communities successfully;
  • develop metrics for measuring the return on investment (ROI); and
  • deploy the market's most popular and easy-to-use community software.

"Many groups have launched virtual communities that have fallen short because the groups have not appropriately addressed the people and process aspects," said Wesley Vestal, an APQC Senior Knowledge Management Consultant. "By working with Fusion, APQC can help communities to develop a community strategy and sustain the community by using best practices to enhance the community member experience."

"A lot of executives have shared with us their difficulties in defining a clear community purpose, strategy, structural management, or performance metrics for making communities successful," said Don Dea, Fusion's Co-Founder and ASAE board member. "APQC and Fusion's dynamic turnkey package will help overcome these obstacles to building lasting return on investment through communities."
